Ben Zehr (Cohort 1) graduated from Stanford’s Master in International Policy in Spring 2023. Since graduating, he has launched Reciprocal, a venture studio focused on solving planetary health issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. Reciprocal recruits new founders, with expertise in climate solutions, to co-found organizations that solve local environmental problems. They also support existing founders and funders seeking climate impact in the region, connecting talent and capital across borders. To date, they have successfully launched one company in Chile and have two more in the pipeline. What Ben loves most about this work is that it has allowed him the opportunity to travel all over the region, interact directly with founders there, and work towards lasting impact.

Reflecting on his time as a Samvid Scholar, the program provided him with not only financial security during his time at Stanford but also experience in making decisions that reflect his values. Ben learned how to align pursuits with his mission, helping him build confidence to pursue a non-traditional path. He is thankful for the community that Samvid Scholars builds and looks forward to staying in touch with current and future scholars.

Looking ahead, Ben plans to continue traveling through Latin America and the Caribbean, build and support more companies, and head to COP30 to connect with more leaders in his field. If anyone is interested in discussing the nexus of LAC + climate startups, please do not hesitate to reach out.
