MD, Stanford University
Katherine Hu is a current MD student at Stanford School of Medicine and an incoming MBA candidate at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she will focus on healthcare innovation for diverse, global communities. She is a recipient of the Knight-Hennessy and Fulbright Scholarships. Previously, Katherine graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in biomedical engineering and minors in robotics and mathematics, where she was Tau Beta Pi and a Bloomberg Scholar.
Katherine’s work spans the intersection of medicine, engineering, and entrepreneurship. At JHU, she co-founded Pediafeed and Maternys—award-winning ventures focused on pediatric and maternal health—that led to multiple publications and patents in collaboration with teams from the US and Sierra Leone. Katherine also worked closely with children in the Baltimore community, creating a youth medical hackathon and an afterschool foreign language program, and served internationally as an elementary teacher in Spain. Most recently, Katherine has pioneered a partnership with Stanford Biodesign and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile to create a low-cost pediatric feeding solution, which has received major research grants and is currently in clinical trials in Chile. She is a strong health equity advocate, partnering with immigrant families to improve their use of hospital technology and empowering them to share their lived experiences through photography.
Ultimately, as an aspiring physician-innovator, Katherine aims to combine clinical care and technology development to diversify medical innovation worldwide. She wants to care for vulnerable populations—especially children and immigrants—and create accessible, affordable solutions that address their needs.
Katherine grew up in Davis, California as the daughter of immigrants from humble backgrounds, which shaped her commitment to service and cross-cultural connection. In her free time, she enjoys seeking out new adventures—whether discovering hidden beaches, trying unique restaurants, or exploring remote corners of the world. She also loves learning languages and creating art.
