Kashyap Sreeram

MD, University of Pennsylvania

Kashyap Sreeram is an MD-PhD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where he hopes to explore the intersection of molecular aging, neurodegeneration, and technological innovation. Kashyap graduated from Duke University (Phi Beta Kappa) with a self-designed interdisciplinary major titled “Computational Neurogenetics in Practice.”

Kashyap is dedicated to improving and restoring the quality of life for the elderly population. Inspired by his grandfather’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Kashyap has conducted significant research into uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disorders, resulting in numerous high-impact publications. Central to Kashyap’s vision is the transformative role of technology in addressing these complex healthcare challenges. At Duke, he was a Data Engineer at KORA, a startup developing artificial intelligence solutions aimed at improving efficiency in the operating room, and continued to expand this impact as a co-founder of the Duke Innovation Studio student startup accelerator.

In addition to research, Kashyap is equally passionate about advocacy and understanding the “illness experience.” In 2022, Kashyap led efforts to confront stigma and improve public understanding of Sickle Cell Disease in Kalangala, Uganda, by integrating culturally rooted practices with education. He also dedicated significant time as a patient advocate with Duke Neurology and served on the Global Patient and Family Advisory Council to create more effective models of care for individuals living with dementia. By developing comprehensive solutions, Kashyap aims to be a leader in supporting aging populations worldwide.

Kashyap is originally from Orlando, Florida. Outside of his academic interests, Kashyap loves to sing, hike, and eat his way through new cities.
