Jerry Zhang is an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School and an MBA candidate at Harvard Business School. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University where he studied biomedical engineering. His path into medicine has been shaped by a longstanding commitment to improving patient care through both clinical medicine and practical innovation. During college, he led teams that developed award-winning health technologies recognized by the National Institutes of Health and XPRIZE, volunteered with the nonprofit Thread to build long-term relationships across lines of difference, and founded the Undergraduate Catalyst Award, which supports fifty student-led initiatives focused on human health and community wellbeing.

Jerry plans to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery with a research interest in innovation for underserved settings. At Harvard, he works with the nonprofit SONA Global to develop low-cost medical technologies, including VATARA, an affordable negative pressure wound therapy platform for patients with complex traumatic wounds, and projects addressing orthopaedic casting shortages using locally sourced materials. His work has been recognized with the HMS Martin Prince Award for Student Innovation. Looking ahead, Jerry hopes to pair compassionate patient care with continued innovation work to scale solutions that expand access to safe, effective surgical care.
