Isaac Sebenius is an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School in the joint Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) program, focusing on psychiatry and neuroscience. He previously completed a PhD in Psychiatry and an MPhil in Computer Science at the University of Cambridge as a Gates-Cambridge and Herchel Smith Scholar. He earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College (Summa Cum Laude), where he studied molecular biology and computer science.
As a researcher, he develops computational tools to understand the brain signatures of mental illness and has led large-scale international collaborations in psychiatric neuroimaging. His work has been featured in venues including Nature Neuroscience, Nature Reviews Neuroscience, and AISTATS, and his methods are used by dozens of research teams around the world to study the biology of psychiatric disorders and neurodevelopment.
Equally committed to impact beyond academia, Isaac has worked as a Fellow for ARTIS Ventures to find and support novel technologies and therapeutics in health and life sciences, with a focus on AI and brain-related disorders. Additionally, as a science communicator, he has written data-driven articles on science-related topics for popular news outlets including Vox, STAT, and The Times.
As a physician-scientist, Isaac aspires to bridge research with clinical practice to work towards a future where psychiatric care is biologically-grounded, evidence-based, compassionate, and accessible.
Originally from Cambridge, MA, Isaac spent five years in the UK and is now reacclimating to Boston winters. He loves running races in new cities, making experimental music with friends, and listening to audiobooks on long walks.
