Harrison Zhang

MD/PhD, Stanford University

Harrison Zhang is an artificial intelligence researcher and MD-PhD candidate at Stanford University. Harrison is building a future in which artificial intelligence and biotechnologies standardize more personalized, accessible, and equitable health care. In an increasingly specialized and divided world, Harrison leverages his multidisciplinary training to bridge differences and build consensus. With this, he has united academic, clinical, federal, and global stakeholders to create a healthier, more just world.

A significant portion of Harrison’s undergraduate research focused on engineering computational tools that leverage vast genomic, molecular, and clinical data to better understand disease states and make more meaningful predictions informing clinical decision-making. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he deployed his computational tools to over 250 international hospitals across 7 countries which distilled new knowledge surrounding the COVID-19 disease process in real time.

Harrison also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Journal of Global Health, where he directed the evaluation of public health solutions aimed at addressing modern health disparities. He further founded and currently directs Humanitarian Voices, a human-centered storytelling organization focused on elevating the voices of humanitarians as they forge their vision of a peaceful and prosperous world through their courageous service, advocacy, and inspiration.

Harrison is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his B.A. in Biology and Statistics from Columbia University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and awarded Magna Cum Laude with Highest Honors. Outside of his academic interests, Harrison is passionate about the visual arts, journalism, teaching, and community building.
