Dianelis Lopez is an MD candidate at the Stanford School of Medicine where she will study the intersection of medicine, public policy, and global health. She is a recipient of the Amgen Scholarship, Fulbright Fellowship, and Benjamin Trustman Fellowship.
Dianelis graduated from Harvard College with a BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a minor in Romance Languages and Literatures. As an undergraduate, she received a Certificate in Latin American Studies recognizing her global health research and community service involvement in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She also conducted HIV research at the Núcleo de Pesquisa em Direitos Humanos e Saúde and CAR-NK cell research at the Ragon Institute.
Dianelis was born in Lawton, Cuba, and immigrated to the United States at ten years old. Her experience growing up in a humble home and navigating welfare programs sparked an interest in how public policy impacts a person’s well-being. Before starting college, she traveled to Cuba to donate school supplies to the students from the middle school she attended as a child. This shaped her understanding of nonprofit work and the importance of democratizing education when enacting social change globally. As a physician-advocate, Dianelis aspires to expand medical coverage and make healthcare more accessible to immigrant and underserved populations.
In her free time, Dianelis enjoys participating in CrossFit classes, cooking with family, and planning spontaneous trips.
