Clara Shanabrook

JD, Yale University

Clara is a JD Candidate at Yale Law School. She is interested in refugee response and resettlement, humanitarian law, and legal academia. Clara graduated in 2023 from Wellesley College summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa where she studied Philosophy and Peace and Justice Studies with a concentration in Migration, Human Rights, and Law. At Wellesley, Clara was a Project for Peace Fellow, a Madeleine Korbel Albright Fellow, a Jerome Schiff Fellow, and a United Nations Women in Peacebuilding Trainee.

Prior to college, Clara spent a year working in refugee camps in Greece. She has continued to be involved in refugee support in Greece, spending the last four years as the Executive Director of REFUGYM, an NGO addressing violence and trauma in refugee camps through community led sports. A trained grant writer, Clara has independently generated over $60,000 in direct funding for refugee communities.

Clara has engaged in domestic refugee resettlement efforts, preparing immigration applications to USCIS with the International Rescue Committee and logistics coordinating for Operation Allies Welcome, the State Department evacuation of Afghan SIV holders. Clara hopes to use her legal education to strengthen a shared global responsibility for climate-driven refugees and to explore new spheres of public interest law.

A native of rural Virginia, Clara enjoys ceramics, cooking, and backpacking.
