Alex Dyer is an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School through the Health, Science, and Technology (HST) program with MIT. He graduated from Harvard College with a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, and a master's degree in Electrical Engineering. As a Marshall Scholar, he received a Master’s of Philosophy in Health, Medicine, and Society and a Master’s of Science in Evidence-based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation from Cambridge and Oxford, respectively. 

Alex is interested in preventing and reducing homelessness, especially among people with disabilities. He is interested in how federal policies affect local outreach programs and how local best practices can receive better support from federal initiatives. He served as the administrative director for the Youth-to-Youth Shelter, the nation’s first youth-led youth homeless shelter. In the UK, he conducted qualitative research and ethnographic work with local shelters and street outreach programs, focusing on individuals with both mental health and substance-use complications. Most recently, he has been investigating how Medicaid expansion affects homelessness and deaths of despair. Alex hopes to improve the integration of healthcare for the homeless programs in places like Florida, where he grew up.  

Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, cooking, and strategy games like Catan.
